ROANOKE, Va. — Fayetteville rallied from a 3-1 deficit late in the third period to force overtime, then was victorious when Jake Rosen scored an unassisted goal 1:53 into the extra session Saturday night in a Southern Professional Hockey League preseason game.

Roanoke took a 3-1 lead — Fayetteville’s score was a power-play goal by Carl Greco — at 15:03 of the third period on Michael Economos’ goal.  Just 1:39 later, Joe Osaka closed the gap to 3-2 on a power-play goal, and Cam MacDonald sent the game into overtime with 37 seconds remaining in regulation.

Fayetteville goalies Alex Murray and Jason Pucciarelli combined to stop 32 of 35 shots by the Rail Yard Dawgs, and the latter earned the win.

Fayetteville hosts Roanoke at 7 p.m. Friday in an SPHL regular-season opener.
