Registration is open for Fort Bragg’s Combat Cross Country Meet, scheduled for Jan. 19.

The race, a grueling tradition on the post, challenges participants to a carry a 35-pound ruck sack over an 11-mile off-road course.

Smith Lake Recreation Area is the host site for this year’s race, which will begin at 9 a.m.

The meet is open to active-duty service members, who will compete in uniform. Individual and team competitions will be raced concurrently.

Men’s teams can have between between four and eight runners, with the top four scoring. In the women’s division, the top three scorers on a team with a maximum of five runners will be scored.

The top five men and top five women will represent Fort Bragg at the Bataan Memorial Death March, held annually in March in White Sands, New Mexico.

The deadline to sign up for the Bragg meet is Jan. 17. Registration can be completed in person at Leisure Travel Services in the mini-mall.

The cost to sign up is $15 by Jan. 12 and $20 thereafter.

For more information about the race, contact intramural sports director Theresa Smith at 910-396-1218.
