KANNAPOLIS — Spencer Lanier hit a three-run homer, Dawson Painter hit a two-run homer and Bryce Marsh had a solo home run as Randolph County Post 45 recorded a 12-2 win over Kannapolis Post 115 in Game 2 of the best-of-five Area III semifinal series Friday night. The game was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Leading 2-0, Post 45 can end the series today at McCrary Park as Game 3 is set to start at 1 p.m.

“Our kids played well and had some good at-bats,” Post 45 coach Ronnie Pugh said. “It was a good win for us.”

Trevor Marsh earned the win on the mound for Randolph County Post 45. He pitched five innings and Travis Winslow pitched a scoreless sixth.

Post 45 17-and-under team leads Area III finals

ASHEBORO — The Randolph County Post 45 Junior American Legion team scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 4-2 win over Mocksville in Game 1 of the Area III finals Friday night at McCrary Park.

Jacob Underwood recorded the go-ahead single in the sixth and another run scored on a double-steal as Post 45 takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Ethan Gravely pitched 5 2/3 solid innings and Underwood picked up the win with 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief.

Post 45 is now 23-7.

Post 45 will travel to Rich Park in Mocksville for Game 2 tonight.
