WHITEVILLE – After a regular season that saw Jacksonville have a number of games postponed or cancelled outright because rain, Post 265 found the postseason no different Thursday night as its Area II playoff opener was suspended in the fourth inning Thursday because of showers.

“It’s been the story of the season,” Post 265 coach Ben Stewart said.

Shortly after Mason Daniels’ run-scoring single forged a 1-1 tie for seventh-seeded Post 265 against No. 2 Whiteville, rain washed out the remainder of the game at Legion Stadium.

The game will resume at 5:30 p.m. at White Oak High School on Friday. After that game is finished, the second game of the best-of-three series will be played.

Game three, if necessary, would be played back at Legion Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Jacksonville had runners at second and third with one out when the game was halted.

Before the rain came, Dawson Elliott’s RBI-triple off right-hander Josh Kellogg broke up a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third to give Whiteville a 1-0 lead before Post 265 answered shortly thereafter behind Daniels.

Notes – Wallace won its playoff opener after three Hope Mills players were involved in a minor traffic accident and couldn’t get to the game. The players were reportedly fine. … The playoff opener between Port City and Pleasure Island was postponed because of rain.
