RALEIGH — Simon Harris, a former men’s basketball player at Elon and North Carolina State, has joined the N.C. State women’s basketball program as an assistant coach.

The school announced the hiring this week. Harris is on board with coach Wes Moore’s staff after spending the past four seasons as an assistant women’s coach at Dayton.

At Dayton, Harris helped the Flyers to three NCAA Tournament appearances. Before that, he was on the Dayton’s men’s staff for three years under former N.C. State player Archie Miller.Harris’ father, Larry Harris, was an assistant coach at N.C. State for the men’s team while his son was a player in the program. 

Harris, a high school graduate from Raleigh Millbrook, was a multi-year letter winner on the N.C. State men's team after sitting out one season following his transfer from Elon. He graduated from N.C. State in 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. Harris then played one season of professional basketball in Ireland.
