Southwestern Conference teams played at Green Meadows Tuesday with Shelby leading the way on the course.
The Golden Lions had a 325 total followed by R-S Central at 354, East Gaston with 364, Chase at 368, South Point 388 and East Rutherford with 398.
Shelby’s Zack Byers was match medalist with a 1-over-par 71. Xavier Proctor shot 74 for Shelby with Connor Goforth and Devin Sims also scoring for the Golden Lions.
Next Monday SWC teams play at the Forest Municipal course.
Kings Mountain 22, Hunter Huss 4 (5) – The Lady Mountaineers made short work of the Huskies with an offensive explosion.
Cassi Melton blasted two home runs for the victors and Emily Graham also homered. Kameron Marr provided two hits with four RBIs for the Mountaineers, who banged out 15 hits for the game.
Summer Deaton earned the win allowing one run in three innings. Keegan Irby worked in relief.
The Mountaineers play at Bessemer City Thursday at 6 p.m.
Crest 23, Ashbrook 0 – Sydney Kale threw a perfect game for the Lady Chargers in the shortened contest, striking out eight in four innings.
Kale also had two hits for the victors. Abby Ramsey, Mackenzie Hayes, and Carlie Patterson had three hits apiece for Crest with Kimberly Morton adding a double.
The Chargers (3-0 league, 5-1 overall) play Thursday at R-S Central.
High School Tennis
The Shelby Boys tennis team defeated Burns Tuesday, 7-0.
Singles winners for the Golden Lions were Kenji Price 2-0,James Mabry 2-0, Braxton Clifton 2-0, Jack Brownlee 2-0 and Alex Niblack 2-0.
Doubles winners were Price/Mabry 8-0 and Clifton/Lavery Hoard 8-0.
The Golden Lions play at Lincolnton Thursday at 4 p.m.
Crest 7, Ashbrook 0 – Madison Humphries had four goals, Gracie Patrick added two and Morgan Reel also found the net for the Lady Chargers in the Big South 3A Conference win.
Reel, Kristina DeBrew, Connor Davis, Alli Varga, Paige McIntyre and Jillian Hux picked up assists for the victors.
Charlize Ledbetter was in goal for the shutout for Crest (1-0 league, 3-0) which plays a makeup game at Central Cabarrus Thursday at 5 p.m.
Kings Mountain 9, Hunter Huss 0 – The Lady Mountaineers rolled past Hunter Huss on the road to open its Big South 3A Conference schedule.
Lindsey Deaver scored three goals for Kings Mountain with Sarah Drennan adding a pair of goals with three assists. Summer Campbell also contributed two goals and two assists for the victors while Cassidy Calhoun produced a goal and two assists. Carley Johnson added a goal and Georgia Moss and assist for the Lady Mountaineers.
Baylee Marr was in goal for the shutout. Olivia Martin, Raegan Buchanan, Rece Guy and Mackenzie Ramsey played well on defense.
KM travels to Hendersonville for a JV/varsity twinbill Wednesday.
Thomas Jefferson 5, Cherryville 1 – The Lady Ironmen dropped to 1-1 on the season with a loss to South Piedmont 1A Conference foe Thomas Jefferson (2-2-1).
Hannah Cooke had the only goal for Cherryville off a Emily Black assist.
Cherryville is back in action at home Thursday against the West Mecklenburg Square in a JV/Varsity twinbill starting at 5 p.m.
Middle School Baseball
Kings Mountain 12, Lincolnton 1 – The Patriots won their first division game of the year and improved to 2-1 overall.
Pitchers Charlie Melton and Peyton Fisher combined on a one-hitter for KMMS with 17 total strikeouts and four walks.
Caleb Broome had a 3-run home run for the victors and Fisher supplied a two-run blast. Melton, Braiden Garris and Kenyon Moore had two hits apiece for Kings Mountain.
KMMS plays Thursday at North Lincoln.
