MT. HERMON — Southern Alamance scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal an 8-7 victory against visiting Providence Grove in a non-league baseball game Wednesday.

Austin Gilley doubled to start the Patriots seventh inning but two quick outs made a comeback look dim.

Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Hunter Harrelson who delivered a run scoring single to keep the Patriot rally alive.

Kaleb Potts followed with a base hit to drive in two runs and Amren Strigo belted a single to score Harrelson with the winning run for Southern Alamance (3-1).

Strigo finished the night with four hits. Potts and Harrelson delivered three hits apiece and Gilley had a pair of hits including a double.

Levi Adams had a double for the only extra base hit for Providence Grove (3-2).

• EASTERN GUILFORD 9, ASHEBORO 7: At Asheboro, a five-run second inning gave Eastern Guilford the lead for good and the Wildcats picked up a Mid-Piedmont Conference victory.

Eastern Guilford (2-3, 1-1) had eight hits in the game with Collin Smith and Alex Gowda collecting two hits apiece.

Cameron Edmunds, who picked up the win on the mound, also had two hits for the Wildcats.

Asheboro falls to 0-4, 0-3.

 

Boys' golf

Eastern Alamance's Kameron Jones shot a 1-over-par 36 to win the all-county match at Alamance Country Club.

Williams High School won the team competition with a score of 152. Eastern Alamance (157), Western Alamance (174) and Southern Alamance (187) rounded out the team results.

Garrett Clark (Williams) 37, Grayson Butler (Williams) 37, Caden Baker (Eastern Alamance) 37, Nick Mathews (Eastern Alamance) 39, Garrett Hauk (Williams) 39, Ellis Hawks (Williams) 39, Harrison Stuart (Williams) 39, Wesley Page (Western Alamance) 40 and Spencer Wood (Western Alamance) 40 rounded out the top 10.

 

Girls’ soccer

At Elon, Silken Carlton scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Western Alamance to a 5-0 victory against visiting Roxboro Person in a Mid-State 3-A Conference game.

Meredith Jolley started the scoring for the Warriors (4-1 overall) with a goal in the sixth minute.

Zoe Bodnar and Maddie Hernandez added goals for Western Alamance.

Lauryn Carlton had four saves and Anna Bryant registered two saves for the Warriors.

Christina Roberts made 16 saves for the Rockets (1-4).

 

Softball

At Mt. Hermon, Southern Alamance racked up 13 hits and routed visiting Southeast Guilford 18-3 in four innings in a Mid-Piedmont Conference game.

Kam Silver went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI while Shayli Martin added three hits and three RBI and Abi Stuart chipped in two hits and four RBI to lead the Patriots (4-0, 2-0).

Alley Fogleman scored four runs for Southern Alamance.

Ila Seamans went 2-for-2 with a run scored for the Falcons (2-2, 0-2).
