Male Athlete of the Week
Joshua Moore, West Craven track and field
West Craven senior Joshua Moore won a state indoor track championship last weekend in the 300-yard dash. Moore also won a state title as part of a relay team last outdoor season.
Is there any different feeling from the two state championships or is one as good as the other?
"It feels good just like the other one but once you win one, you want to win another one."
How is it different winning in a race by yourself than last year in a relay race with teammates?
"It's tougher because it's all about you. You don't have those exhanges and nobody with you."
What is it like for you, not playing any other sports, to be able to focus all your energy and time to track?
"I like it because I can work in the weight room and out here on the track with coach Watley one-on-one."
Did you ever play any other sports?
"Yes, I played football."
What is something you like to do that maybe a lot of people wouldn't know about you?
"I like to cook. Shrimp alfredo would be my favorite thing to cook."
Female Athlete of the Week
Harmony Campbell, West Craven basketball
West Craven sophomore Harmony Campbell is a guard on the Eagles' basketball team. She scored six points in Tuesday's conference tournament loss to Washington.
How do you feel about the season now that it's over and you can look back at it?
"At first it was rough because a lot of us were out for ourselves, then we got that first win and came together."
Since Christmas, the team has played much better, what has been the biggest key in that?
"Just much better attitudes on the team and working together."
What do you feel like you need to work on to be better next year?
"Taking better care of the ball."
When did you start playing basketball?
"I've been playing since I was 5 years old."
What do you like the most about the sport?
"I like the intensity and when I'm out there playing, I forget about everything else."
