To the editor:

True to his campaign promise to make America great again, Trump gives $686 billion in his budget to the Pentagon to strengthen our military in the article, " Trump's $4.4T budget strikes deficit" published 2/13/18.

Even though we are going to have a strong military again, we dare not put our trust in military might. Scripture says, "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.(Psalm 20:7) This was written by King David, the king of Israel.

Remember the Sunday school lesson about David and Goliath? This is where David, a simple shepherd boy who knew only how to sling stones challenged Goliath, an experienced armour-clad warrior. David said to the military man, "And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword or spear: for the battle is the Lord's and He will give you into our hands." And the Lord did. ((1 Sam 17:47)

Another example of this is when Moab and Ammon came against Jehoshaphat, King of Judah. The king sought the Lord. The Lord replied,"...Be not afraid by reason of this multitude for the battle is not yours, but God's (2 Chronicles 20:15)

So when we trust in the Lord, we can confidently expect that God will rout our enemies for us and that the battle is not ours, but the Lord's.
