Just a few hours before hosting HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson last Friday in Fayetteville, I was in Washington standing with President Trump, our troops and local victims of Hurricane Matthew by voting to pass the Bipartisan Budget Act. This legislation includes $125 million in additional federal disaster relief for North Carolina — money that I fought for even as national attention turned to more recent disasters.

To date, we have provided over $1 billion in federal disaster aid to the state of North Carolina for hurricane and flood recovery. However, too many families remain unable to return home, which the budget bill will help address. The Bipartisan Budget Act also provides $6 billion in additional funding to combat the opioid crisis and funds critical military needs at the level requested by Secretary Mattis. As your Congressman, I am committed to supporting Hurricane Matthew recovery and our brave heroes in the military.
