A Davidson County man was charged with first-degree murder after he allegedly shot and killed his roommate during a domestic altercation Saturday afternoon.

Joseph Mark Welborn, of 194-9 Koontz Road, is jailed without bond.

At 12:34 p.m. Saturday, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting at 194-9 Koontz Road in the Yadkin College area on the county.

Upon arrival, detectives found James William Foster, 42, of 194-9 Koontz Road, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest and abdominal area.

During the investigation, detectives identified Welborn, who is in his mid-20s, as the suspect.

According to Sheriff David Grice, the two men live at the Koontz Road home with their significant others and all four individuals were home at the time of the shooting. Detectives believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic argument, Grice said.

Foster was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem via EMS where he was pronounced dead.

Welborn was arrested without incident. He is being held in the Davidson County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17.
