CARTHAGE — Authorities found an adult male body floating in a small pond outside of Carthage Sunday afternoon.

Officials were still working to determine his identification Sunday night. According to authorities, the victim had been in the water an undetermined amount of time.

Emergency responders were dispatched shortly after 3:30 p.m. to a small pond well off the roadway in the 1300 block of Union Church Road after a caller reported finding a body in the pond.
 
The first-arriving official from Carthage confirmed there was a victim in the water. For assistance, the official called for additional resources from Carthage Fire and Rescue and specialized boats and water rescue equipment from Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue in Vass.

Officials were able to recover the fully clothed victim from the water without incident.
 
The incident remains under investigation.

Responding were units with Carthage Fire and Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, Moore County Emergency Medical Services, the N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office, the Carthage Police Department and the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
