A 15-year-old LaGrange teen was killed Friday after a tow truck in which he was a passenger rolled over on N.C. 11 during a single-vehicle accident.

The youth's name is not being release at this time.

Trooper Jackie Rogers, of the N.C. Highway Patrol, said the Faulkner Tow truck from La Grange was being driven by the owner's 17-year-old son Kenneth Russell Faulkner III when the accident occurred.

Faulkner was traveling south on N.C. 11 about a half a mile from the Ferrell Road intersection of N.C. 11, a few miles south of DuPont, when the white tow truck went off the right side of the road. Faulkner apparently swerved back on the highway and over corrected. The truck rolled over three times on the highway, Rogers said.

Faulkner and the 15-year-old youth, neither of whom were wearing seatbelts, were both ejected from the truck, he said.

Faulkner was transported to Vidant Medical Center. Faulkner was, according to Rogers, seriously injured. The passenger died at scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigated, Rogers said.

Both directions of N.C. 11 were shut down for more than an hour.

Hugo Fire and Rescue, N.C. Highway Patrol and Lenoir County Sheriff's Office responded to the call.
