ASHEBORO — A Randolph County deputy was hurt in an encounter with a suspect Friday afternoon, according to a spokesperson with the sheriff’s office on Friday.


The incident happened on Crestwick Road near Ramseur around 2 p.m.


Authorities said Lt. Kevin Walton, responding to a call about an armed person at a business, encountered a suspect. The deputy was injured in the encounter and taken to the hospital.


He was treated and released at Randolph Health.


According to Capt. Bernie Maness, the suspect, Clarence Rodney Harris, no age or address given, was taken into custody.
