Pancake Breakfast benefits Team First Book

WILMINGTON -- An "all-you-can-eat" pancake breakfast, sponsored by Trinity United Methodist Church, will be held 7:30-11 a.m. July 14 at Trinity United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 4008 S. College Road, Wilmington (next to Cape Fear Academy). The cost is $5 and will include pancakes, sausage, baked apples, etc. Proceeds will benefit Team First Book in New Hanover County (a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide new books to children in need.

July 28 is Pender County Night at the Sharks

SOUTHEASTERN, N.C. -- The Wilmington Shark and Pender County Tourism is teaming up to host Pender County Night on July 28.

All youth softball and baseball leagues will get free admission, including coaches.

“I think we’ve hit a home run with Pender County Night at the Wilmington Sharks,” said Tammy Proctor, tourism director. “Anyone wishing to attend can purchase discounted tickets online for $5.”

The Wilmington Sharks’ mascot, Sharkey, will celebrate a birthday on July 28, Pender County Night. The first 500 guests at the gate will receive a free Sharkey bobblehead.

“Pender County has a special connection to the Wilmington Sharks because three players hail from Pender County – Bryce Coto, Sam Luchansky and Danny Wilson,” said Proctor. “We urge the community to turn out to Legion Stadium on Saturday night, July 28.”

As a host with the Wilmington Sharks, Pender County will honor five heroes, throw out the first pitch, and sing the National Anthem.

Topsail Friends of the Library benefit Aug. 2

HAMPSTEAD -- The Topsail Friends of the Library will hold a fundraiser, 5-9 p.m. Aug. 2 at Nineteen Restaurant at the Olde Point Country Club, 513 Country Club Road.

Participants can have dinner at that time and a percentage of the total sales will be donated back the Topsail Friends of the Library. Monies raised through this fundraiser will be used to purchase new books, magazines, technology and programs for the library.
