A field of 143, a foursome more than the initially announced limit for registration, will compete in the 46th annual Spartanburg County Men's Amateur Championship. The 54-hole event begins Friday at Three Pines Country Club.

USC: The Atlanta Braves will hold South Carolina Day for all University of South Carolina students, alumni and fans on Monday, Sept. 3, as the Boston Red Sox come in for a Labor Day matinee at SunTrust Park. The game starts at 1:30 p.m. Ticket prices through the South Carolina Day promotion are $54 for terrace reserved, $47 for the home run porch and $32 for the grandstand infield. All South Carolina fans who purchased the ticket package will receive a Braves/South Carolina co-branded hat.

• USC’s Williams-Brice Stadium was one of 10 sport and entertainment facilities recognized for its leadership in addressing safety and security issues, it was announced this week as part of the National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition held in Louisville, Ky.

CLEMSON: Games with Nebraska, Mississippi State, South Carolina and a possible meeting with Georgia highlight Clemson’s men’s basketball’s non-conference schedule for the 2018-19 season, announced by head coach Brad Brownell on Thursday. Clemson will face at least three 2018 NCAA Tournament teams and at least six teams who won at least 19 games outside of its demanding 18-game ACC schedule. Clemson’s rivalry with South Carolina will be renewed on Dec. 22 when the Tigers travel to Columbia to try and make it three straight victories against the Gamecocks.

USC UPSTATE: USC Upstate volleyball’s Kaleigh Kelley was named a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. A record 581 female college athletes were nominated by NCAA member schools for the award this year. Kelley was named to the Atlantic Sun Winners for Life team for her display of excellence on and off the playing surface.

LIMESTONE: Partnering with the Christian Education Leadership Program (CELP), the Limestone College football team took some time out of its volunteer offseason training program earlier this week to package over 20,000 meals for needy families throughout the world. The Saints football team and Limestone's CELP took part in the meal packaging program through Rise Against Hunger, a volunteer-based initiative that coordinates the assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.
