New Hanover High football players among those charged

WILMINGTON – The Wilmington Police Department Gang Unit arrested eight people, including a former New Hanover High School football star, Thursday on various drug charges and outstanding warrants in the area of South 13th Street and Ann Street.

The arrest come in the wake of a month-long investigation by the Wilmington Police Department Gang Unit, WPD Vice Unit and the WPD North West Patrol Division. The investigation started because of resident complaints, according to a WPD release. Three of the men arrested were validated gang members. The WPD did not specify to which gang they were affiliated. All of the suspects received a $150,000 bond.

The following people were arrested and charged:

Wizdom Ryjiek Vaughn, 18, of Wilmington- Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Cocaine and Sell/ Deliver Cocaine. Vaughn was the most valuable player of the 3A NCHSAA State Championship game, which New Hanover High School won last year over A.C. Reynolds at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham.

Tyshawn Ellijah Herd, 21, of Wilmington- Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Cocaine, Sell/ Deliver Cocaine, and Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of New Hanover High School.

Shaquam Tyshaun Kemp, 17, of Wilmington- Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Cocaine and Sell/ Deliver Cocaine, 2 counts each charge. Kemp was also a member of the New Hanover High School 3A NCHSAA State Championship team.

Leverne Ross, 52, of Wilmington- Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Cocaine, Sell/ Deliver Cocaine, and Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of New Hanover High School.

Tyran Saadiq Joye, 22, of Wilmington- Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana, Sell/ Deliver Marijuana, and Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of New Hanover High School.

Latoya Rashe Bailey, 30, of Wilmington- Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Cocaine, Sell/ Deliver Cocaine, and Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of New Hanover High School.

Brittany Arlene Greene- 29, of Wilmington-3 outstanding Orders for Arrest for Failure to Appear.

Juvenile, 15, of Wilmington- Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Cocaine and Sell/ Deliver Cocaine.
