A Fayetteville man was injured Thursday afternoon in a drive-by shooting near Black and Decker and Legion roads, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said.

It happened about 2:30 p.m., said Lt. Sean Swain, Sheriff's Office spokesman.

The man, who has not been identified, was walking with friends on Black and Decker Road near Pelligrini Avenue when shots were fired from a tan-colored Cadillac that was traveling east toward Gillespie Street, Swain said.

A woman, who asked not to be identified, was in a car coming from Legion Road to go to the Food Lion shopping center, across from Pelligrini Avenue, when she heard gunshots and ducked.

"I think he was walking because I drove past him," she said.

The man, who was shot in the thigh, managed to get to a yard at the corner before collapsing, she said.

He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of the injury. His condition was not available.

The man was not cooperating with authorities, Swain said.

No description of the vehicle driver was available, he said.
