1. Bright Ideas grants: Teachers may apply for grants from South River Electric Membership Corp., which expects to award $50,000 for classroom projects and materials through the Bright Ideas Grant Program. Teachers from K-12 public schools can apply for as much as $2,500. The application deadline is Sept. 19. 2. Rockefeller House Tour: The staff at Carvers Creek State Park will lead a tour through James Stillman Rockefeller’s winter estate on Saturday at 10 a.m. The group will hear about the history of the surrounding structures, some of which date to the early 1800's. Sign up ahead of time for the free tour by stopping in or calling the park office at 436-4681. The program will be canceled if it rains or if other weather conditions make it unsuitable. The park is at 2505 Long Valley Road in Spring Lake.
3. Institute for Community Leadership: The Institute for Community Leadership is accepting applications for the 2018-19 class. The program is designed to develop and empower community members who are willing to commit to leadership and service roles in addressing important issues in Fayetteville and Cumberland County. The deadline to apply is July 17. There are seven monthly training sessions from September through April, excluding December. Sessions are held in different locations from 6 to 9 p.m., usually on the third Tuesday of the month.
