An overturned tractor-trailer shut down the interstate and created traffic nightmares for Gaston drivers on their morning commute Wednesday.

Nobody was injured when the ABO Transport truck flipped over just before 8 a.m. on Interstate 85 north between Exits 17 and 14. Skid marks were visible more than two hours later, and crews had yet to flip the truck upright.

The 18-wheeler was carrying tires, and overturned after a car in front of it slammed on the brakes, according to the Gastonia Fire Department.

Traffic was briefly shut down entirely in the southbound lanes, before police diverted cars into one lane around the wreck. Traffic was slowed for more than a mile behind the wreck.

It wasn't the only tractor-trailer rollover local officials were called to on Wednesday.

Two people suffered minor injuries when a truck overturned on Lucia-Riverbend Highway.
