Brunswick County Sheriff's Office charged Bruce Rains with 7 counts of forgery
BRUNSWICK COUNTY – The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office arrested a former Wilmington accountant Tuesday for fraud.
Bruce Alan Rains, 66, of Garnercrest Road in Wilmington, was charged with seven counts of obtaining property under false pretense and seven counts of forgery of an instrument. Rains allegedly swapped his name on several client checks to the IRS. He is accused of defrauding Hoffman Ecoworks of nearly $7,000 between 2016 and June 2018. Rains was placed under a $10,000 bond.
The sheriff’s office also arrested Henry Frederick Specht, Jr., 60, of Knoll Drive, Little River, S.C. He was charged Tuesday with felony obtaining property under false pretense after he allegedly took money to pay state and federal taxes from a client and didn’t file the return. The checks totaled over $83,000, according to a Sheriff's office release.
