A new program that acquaints children with kindergarten begins next week in the Cumberland County library system.

Kindergarten Kickoff uses puppetry, reading, writing and games to help students learn what to expect in kindergarten, according to a library press release. The library won a grant to fund the program. Dates and locations are as follows:

• Tuesday: 10 a.m., North Regional Branch, 855 McArthur Road.

• Wednesday: 11 a.m., West Regional Branch, 7469 Century Circle.

• June 13: 10 a.m., Headquarters Library, 300 Maiden Lane.

• June 21: 11 a.m., East Regional Branch, 4809 Clinton Road.

• June 21: 3 p.m., Bordeaux Branch, 3711 Village Drive.

The library also encourages parents to sign up children for library cards, regardless of their age, and reminds parents of its Summer Reading Program where children can track their reading and win prizes. For information on library programs, go to cumberland.lib.nc.us or call 483-7727.
