ASHEBORO — Brooke Avery will teach pottery classes for beginners this summer at the Randolph Arts Guild.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of pottery — wedging clay, centering the clay on the wheel and pulling up the clay to make different forms. The three basic forms to make on the wheel are a mug, plate and bowl. After that, the students should feel more comfortable exploring different shapes and forms, such as jars, bottles and vases.

This class will not be limited to wheel throwing. Students will learn hand-building on projects of their choice, and explore surface design and techniques to apply images, patterns, slips and glazes to the clay.

Cost is $145 for members and $155 for non-members. Enrollment deadline for both teen and adult classes is Monday, June 4.

The next session will be on Thursdays from June 7-July 19. Teen classes, for ages 11-15, will be held from 4-6 p.m. Adult classes, for ages 16 and up, will be held from 6-8 p.m.
