The Junior League of Spartanburg (JLS), Spartanburg’s premier organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community, recently announced the new 2018-2019 Board of Directors. These members will be responsible for overseeing the leagues finances, policies, and procedures, admission of membership, strategic planning and community outreach.
“I am honored to serve alongside the women who comprise the 2018-2019 Junior League of Spartanburg Board of Directors,” said Colleen Rice, the incoming president of Junior League of Spartanburg. “This year, children's literacy and school readiness improvement efforts will continue through our successful Read and Dine events. We also plan to maintain our strong presence at the Hub City Farmers Market with our Kids in the Kitchen program. Toward the end of this year, keep an eye out for our 30th annual Santa's Shoppe fundraiser at our new location, Spartanburg Marriott. We’re excited to integrate this event with all the momentum happening downtown. I look forward to a wonderful year of continued community impact for Spartanburg and leadership development for our members.”
The new Board members include:
President: Colleen Rice - An active member since 2010. Before being elected as President Elect, Ms. Rice served in other leadership positions, including the Santa’s Soiree Co-Chair and Chair, Revenue Enhancement Chair, and Santa’s Shoppe Event Vice Chair and then Chair. Following those leadership roles she was nominated to the board as Treasurer Elect in 2015 and then served as Treasurer the following year. Colleen is from Southwest Florida and is an Account Manager with Optum Hospice Pharmacy Services.
President Elect: Lindsey Ridgeway- An active member since 2012. Her leadership roles in the league include Santa’s Soiree Auction Chair, Santa’s Shoppe Event Chair and Vice Chair, Treasurer Elect, and most recently served on the board as Treasurer. Dr. Ridgeway is the Assistant VP for Student Services at VCOM-Carolinas. She is married to Ryan Ridgeway and they have one son, Michael Nash.
Vice President of Membership: Elizabeth Watson- An active member since 2014, Mrs. Watson has served as Provisional Chair & Vice-Chair, as well as Venture magazine editor for two years. She was born and raised in North Carolina and has lived in Spartanburg since 2011. Mrs. Watson is married to Rob Watson and is currently a stay-at-home mom with their daughter, Everly
Sustainer Director: Laura Allen- Joined the Junior League in 1985. Served in Boston, Boca Raton, and Nashville Leagues. She sustained in Nashville and was Sustainer of the year in 2008. She transferred to JL Spartanburg in 2014. Ms. Allen is the Executive Director of Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas, and serves on the boards of Girl Scouts Mountains to Midlands, Spartanburg Philharmonic, and Childhood Cancer Optimist Club. She is a member of Downtown Rotary. Raised in Westchester County, NY. Laura is married to Roger Sullivan and has three grown children. Her daughter Elizabeth is a provisional in the Los Angeles League.
Vice President of Communications: Mary Beth Blum - An active member since 2016, Ms. Blum previously served as the Web/Tech Chair and this is her first year serving as a Board Member. Ms. Blum is from Simpsonville, SC and graduated from Clemson University in 2014. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Clemson Women’s Alumni Council and is the Spartanburg Area Representative for Clemson’s Young Alumni Council. She works full-time as a Recruiter for AFL and enjoys volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate.
Vice President of Community: Brianna Woodsby- An active member since 2011, Mrs. Woodsby has served in several leadership positions within the Community Council as Community Project Chair and Project Development, as well as the Finance Council as the Venture Business Manager. Brianna works for AFL in Duncan, SC as the Director of International Trade Compliance. She and her husband, Jon, along with their son, Luke, reside in Spartanburg.
Treasurer: Leah Rigsby- An active member since 2015, Ms. Rigsby is looking forward to working on the Board for the second time. She has been involved in several leadership roles including the Revenue Enhancement Chair, Mini Grant Chair, and Treasure Elect. Ms. Rigsby currently serves on several boards and committees in Spartanburg County. She is a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church and an Elementary School Teacher in District 2. Ms. Rigsby is from Philadelphia, PA and has three boys, Liam and twins Easton and Greyson.
Treasure Elect: Genna Jo Parker- An active member since 2010, Ms. Parker has held many leadership roles within the league including Project Development Chair, Meetings and Placement Chair, Santa's Shoppe Vice-Chair and Chair as well as Nominating Chair. Genna-Jo is from Boiling Springs, SC and is the HR and Payroll manager for the Master Gardner Company. She has three sons, JR a Marine stationed in Hawaii, Joe and Ren.
Secretary: Katherine McKibben Lopez - An active member of the league since 2011. Mrs. McKibben Lopez previously served in other leadership roles including Santa Shoppe Merchants Vice Chair, Santa Shoppe Merchants Chair, Meetings and Placement Co-Chair, Archivist, Treasurer Elect and Treasurer. This will be Katherine’s third year serving the board. Katherine is currently a stay at home mom to her two children.
