Police say the two wielded a shotgun when the pair tried to take money from Kenneth Hamilton. Mixon allegedly used the butt of the gun to hit the Dallas man in the head. Long is accused of using his fists to land several punches on the man.
Hamilton suffered serious injury as result of the blows, and he was kidnapped rather than released in a safe place by the couple, according to arrest warrants. His life was endangered during the incident, police say.
Mixon and Long were each arrested Monday and remain in Gaston County Jail.
Mixon, 28, is charged with first-degree kidnapping, attempted felony robbery and felony assault with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious injury.
This is her fourth arrest since July, when she was charged with larceny and violating North Carolina's new revenge porn law. She allegedly shared a private image of a Stanley woman without her permission.
She was booked on $91,000 bond.
Long, 32, is charged with the same crimes except for a misdemeanor assault and battery in place of the assault with a dangerous weapon offense Mixon faces.
He was booked on a $50,000 bond.
