A special election will be held in June to fill a vacated seat on the Cherokee Springs Fire District Board of Commissioners.

The board accepted the resignation of Commissioner David Lancaster at its meeting on March 12. Spartanburg County Registration and Elections Director Henry Laye said the resignation creates the need for a special election on June 5 to fill the unexpired term.

Laye said the filing period for the special election begins at noon March 30 and closes at noon April 9.

Candidates must file with the Spartanburg County Election Commission on a non-partisan statement of intention of candidacy form. The form is available at the County Election Office at 366 N. Church St., Room 1630.
