Sara Nakia Mitchell allegedly told officers she was high on crack and drunk when the accident happened.
WILMINGTON -- A Wilmington woman was arrested early Wednesday for impaired driving after she allegedly hit a parked vehicle, then -- in a bid to flee -- struck a Market Street motel.
Sara Nakia Mitchell, 24, is charged with hit-and-run, driving while impaired, open container violation, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving on a revoked license.
According to Jennifer Dandron, spokeswoman with the Wilmington Police Department, officers were called out to a hit-and-run accident on Wayne Drive at 1:45 a.m. A man reported he was sitting in a parked vehicle when a gold four-door sedan hit his car and drove off.
The at-fault driver – later identified as Mitchell -- then crashed her car into the side of America’s Best at Market and 30th streets, Dandron said.
Mitchell allegedly attempted to run away on foot but was apprehended by officers.
“She admitted being highly intoxicated and having smoked crack cocaine,” Dandron said. A breath test registered a .10 blood alcohol content, above the legal limit to drive of .08, Dandron said.
Mitchell was booked into jail and then released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
