Henderson County residents braved the windy, cold March weather Tuesday to drop off household chemicals at the Convenience Center.
Officials held the household hazardous waste collection for safe disposal of items such as pesticides, fertilizers and common cleaners.
Spring collections will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon April 10 and May 8. Officials said they will schedule three events for the fall as well.
Rachel Kipar, Environmental Programs coordinator, said residents who come to the events do a great job of preparing household chemicals for disposal by keeping them in original containers and ensuring that labels are intact.
“The goal of our program is to provide a responsible disposal option for citizens to ensure that we are actively keeping environmentally unsafe chemicals out of the landfill and from polluting our land, air and water," she said.
