New Bern police pulled the body of a man out of a pond behind Walmart Saturday morning and are awaiting autopsy results to determine how he died.
According to Lt. Daren Fuller, someone called the station’s administration number to report the body at 8:48 a.m. Saturday. Police arrived at the pond, which is located between the Walmart loading dock and the Camden Square Apartments.
A resident at the apartments, who declined to give her name, said police put up crime tape and questioned local residents.
“They asked me if I had heard anything between 12 and 5,” she said.
An autopsy was being performed on Tuesday, Fuller said, and police will determine how to handle the case once they learn results. He said the scene was cleared by 1:15 p.m.
Police did not identify the victim.
