Wine at Waterline

Bright, floral wines will pair quite nicely with the springtime paintings of Debra Bucci at Waterline Brewing Co.’s Wine at Waterline, a free, monthly pairing of wine, cheese and local art. This month’s event features wine and cheese paired by Blockade Runner head chef Jessica Cabo and paintings from Bucci's show "In the Light" at Art in Bloom Gallery. Details: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Waterline Brewing Co., 721 Surry St., Wilmington.

Fourth Friday: Wayne K. Johnson

Johnson works elements of colorful cubism into his paintings, finding rich geometry in his portraits, portrayals of the female form and still lifes of North Carolina pottery. Details: In coordination with Fourth Friday Gallery Nights, the exhibition receives a public reception 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Century 21 Sweyer & Associates, 21-B Market St. The show hangs through March 18.

Fourth Friday: 'Holding on to Tradition'

Photographer Barbara Michael and painter Evin Leek offer insight into the daily lives of two different cultures in "Holding on to Tradition: A View of Changing Cultures,” an exhibition on display at WHQR’s MC Erny Gallery. The show features paintings, photographs and displays of traditional clothing exploring cultural changes in pre-war Yemen and post-war Guatemala. Details: "Holding on to Tradition” opens with a public reception 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 23 at WHQR’s MC Erny Gallery, 254 N. Front St. The show is on display through April 13.

Fourth Friday: 'Neither Here Nor There'

Cape Fear Community College’s Wilma W. Daniels Gallery presents “neither here nor there (or And),” a five-day group exhibition featuring work by six painters from across the U.S., each using their brushes to elude, disrupt and transform the familiar. Details: The exhibition runs noon to 5 p.m Feb. 19-23 at CFCC’s Wilma W. Daniels Gallery, 200 Hanover St. The show receives a public reception 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 23 in coordination with Fourth Friday Gallery Nights.
