WILMINGTON -- The Wilmington Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering the one day About Boating Safely course. The course will be held 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 24 and March 24 at the Coast Guard Sector Office on Medical Center Drive. The cost is $35 with reduced rates for members of the same household. A certificate of completion will be presented upon fulfilling the class’ requirements. To register for the course or for more information, contact Alan Deforest at 910-297-1094, deforestalan@yahoo.com or visit our website at: www.wilmingtonboater.com.

The boating safety class meets both the state and federal requirements, where anyone born after Jan. 1, 1988, operating a vessel powered by a 10 HP or greater motor is required by NC statute to have successfully completed a boating safety course. It is a good beginner’s course as well as a refresher for more experienced boaters. The course includes an introduction to boating, boating law, safety equipment, basic navigation, navigation aids (buoys), trailering, storing and protecting your boat, and more. The course is presented by experienced auxiliarists and seamen.
