Giddens named assistant secretary


RALEIGH — N.C. Department of Commerce Secretary Anthony M. Copeland appointed Daniel Giddens to serve as the department’s assistant secretary of the Division of Workforce Solutions (DWS). Since December, Giddens has served as acting assistant secretary of the division. Giddens served as director of field operations at DWS prior to serving as acting assistant secretary. Before coming to North Carolina in 2001, Giddens had more than 15 years of experience as the director of a local workforce development board in Georgia.

Liberty Tax Service, Asheboro officials set up public safety day


ASHEBORO — Liberty Tax Service representatives are teaming up with City of Asheboro police and fire departments to hold a public safety day. The event will take place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Liberty Tax office, 405 E. Dixie Drive. Visitors will be able to climb aboard and explore a fire truck as well as learn about family, community and general safety. Liberty crowns will be given out. Safety resources and materials will also be available during the event.

Goodwill announces hiring event for Feb. 21


ASHEBORO — Triad Goodwill announced that Service System Associates Inc. (SSA) will host a hiring event 9 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Asheboro Career Center, 1064 E. Dixie Drive. SSA has part-time seasonal positions available at the N.C. Zoo. The company will be hiring for all food service positions, including front-line staff, cooks, cashiers and more.
