N.C. Speaker of the House Tim Moore appointed White, chairman of the New Hanover Commissioners, Wednesday

WILMINGTON -- New Hanover County Commissioner Woody White is the newest member of the University of North Carolina Wilmington's governing board.

UNCW announced Friday that White will join the board of trustees Jan. 18. N.C. Speaker of the House Tim Moore appointed White Wednesday to take over the empty seat formerly held by Christopher Leonard. White will be sworn in during next week's board meeting, at 10 a.m. Thursday in UNCW's Burney Center.

“As a longtime supporter and fan of UNCW, it is such an honor to join the Seahawk family as a trustee,” a news release quoted White. “I look forward to working alongside my fellow board members, under the strong leadership of Ms. Wilma Daniels, to continue this university’s 70-year tradition of excellence and integrity, and I thank the Speaker and Chancellor (Jose) Sartarelli for this humbling opportunity.”

White has also tendered his resignation with Cape Fear Community College's Board of Trustees, on which he served since 2013. White is also chairman of the county commissioners and owns the law firm Woody White Law PLLC.
