The Gardner-Webb women’s basketball team will host perennial Big South Conference power Liberty in a 3 p.m. showdown Saturday at Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs.

Coach Rick Reeves’ GWU squad enters the contest with a 2-1 league mark, 12-3 overall. The Flames stand 3-0 in conference play, 8-7 overall.

Varsity Basketball

North Gaston 63, Burns 55 (boys) – The Wildcats (12-4, 5-2 Big South) opened a 20-point lead but the host Bulldogs hit a flurry of 3-pointers near the end to get the margin down to single digits.

Rayshun McDowell poured in 21 points for Burns (3-12, 0-6 league) with J.Q. Wells adding eight. North got a 26-point effort from Tyrese McNeal with Lionel Thomas supplying 14.

Burns will host Crest on Tuesday night.

North Gaston 60, Burns 43 (girls) – North opened a 13-point edge (25-12) after one quarter and Burns could never the margin below eight the rest of the way.

Burns (6-9, 1-5 Big South) got 17 points from Messiah Brown and 12 from Timone Jefferies. North (12-3, 4-3 league) was paced by Spencer Brittain’s 17 points with Savannah Baldwell adding 11.

Middle School Basketball

Crest 46, Chase 24 (boys) – The Crest Dragons rolled to a big win led by Jamarion Adams’ 20 points. Crest (4-0) also got seven points by Elijah Hall and six from Tylik Briscoe.

Crest 31, Chase 9 (girls) – The Lady Dragons improved to 1-1 in the league (2-2 overall) with the win.

Hannah Merritt scored 12 points for the victors, Shamiah Smith added seven and Brooklyn Wray six.

CMS will host R-S Central Thursday.

Kings Mountain 57, Lincolnton 52 (boys) – The Patriots nabbed their first win, trailing throughout but overtaking the Wildcats in the final two minutes.

Isaiah Tate led KMMS (1-2 overall) with 30 point with Zeke Cannedy adding 12 and DeAndre Hoyle adding seven to go with 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. Rasharrd Brooks, AJ Richardson, Mark Thomasson and Hole pace the Patriots’ defense.

Kings Mountain will host North Lincoln on Thursday.

JV Basketball

Kings Mountain 56, Crest 52 (boys) – The junior Mountaineers raised their Big South Conference mark to 5-2 with the win, paced by Matt Toms’ 14 points and 12 from Weston Hughes.

King Law 23, VFW 22 – Tee Hollifield led King Law with 13 points and Dwayne Wilson added 10. Chaden Poole sparked VFW with eight points and Tykee Watson had five.

B&W Fiberglass 56, Civitans 10 – B&W Fiberglass romped to victory paced by Jeremiah Mack’s 17 points. Parker Maddox had four points for the Civitans.

Shelby Optimist 53, Future Energy 37 – Emma Hollifield led Shelby Optimist with 19 points and Keshon Robinson added 10. Kevin Walls scored 10 points for Future Energy.

FOP 46, Stroud, Wilson, & Thompson 34 -- Tyzane Ross paced FOP with 16 points and Torri Simmons added 14. Taylon McDowell led Stroud, Wilson, & Thompson with 17.
