A brotherly squabble over sleeping arrangements reportedly sent the older sibling to the emergency room and the other to a jail cell.

Dylan Jominor Gemmell, 17, of Curt Holland Road in Stella was arrested by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Department on Nov. 12 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

The 20-year-old brother was shot with a handgun in the abdomen and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to OCSO Col. Donnie Worrell. Worrell said as of Tuesday afternoon, he was in stable condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Worrell said a dispute between the brothers began when they argued over the use of a bed at a Midway Park residence owned by a relative on Squirrel Lane and used by Gemmell as his weekend residence.

Gemmell made his first appearance in Onslow District Court on Nov. 13 where he was assigned Jacksonville attorney Matthew Coxe as his court-appoint counsel and calendared to appear in court on Dec. 4. During his brief appearance, the court ordered Gemmell to remain away from his brother and not threaten, harass or assault him until the case has been disposed.

Gemmell remains in custody in the Onslow County Jail under a $35,000 secured bond.

Worrell said investigation into the shooting is ongoing and anyone with information should call the OCSO at 910-455-3113 or Det. Jonathan Lincoln at 910-938-3273 and reference case number 2017020494.
