Crews are relocating a centuries-old live oak as part of construction of a new shopping center at Market Street and Middle Sound Loop Road.
OGDEN -- An old live oak tree on Market Street will be relocated this week to protect it during the development of the Ogden Marketplace shopping center, which will include a Publix supermarket. Developers partnered with the city, county and N.C. Department of Transportation to save the tree, which they claim is 200 years old. The relocation is expected to take place on Friday -- weather permitting. The N.C. Department of Transportation has shifted lanes along Market Street near Middle Sound Loop Road to accommodate the tree-relocation project.
