ASHEBORO — The youth of Vision of Unity Ministries, 214 N. Elm St., Asheboro, will host their first Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, July 29, in Bientennial Park. They would like to make it an annual event.
The bash begins at 5 p.m. in Asheboro’s downtown park. Festivities will include free popcorn, hot dogs, chips, drinks, sundaes and live music from the Vision of Unity Ministries Praise Team, Marcus Lowery, Keenen Tyson and King Ratliff.
Motivational speaker Willie Pettiford will give words of encouragement to school children as they look toward a new school year. He is the founder of Voices of the Struggle and co-founder of Break the Chain Mentoring in Greensboro.
Each child who attends will receive a ticket for a raffle. Prizes will include a $100 Footlocker gift, a McDonald’s gift card and a Nike bookbag.
There will also be a bookbag giveaway for children in kindergarten through 12th grade. The goal is to distribute 500. The church has the bookbags and is seeking donations, such as notebook paper, binders, pencils, pens, folders, notebooks and erasers, to help fill them.
