Union County deputies are investigating a reported accidental shooting in Jonesville.
Deputies were notified that a person was shot at 1198 Old Spartanburg Highway on Friday. A 22-year-old had been shot in the back and was being treated by paramedics, according to a Union County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
The 22-year-old’s father told investigators that he and his 13-year-old brother had been fishing in a nearby pond and that they typically carry a shotgun with them in case they see a snake, the report states.
The father told deputies that the 13-year-old was holding the gun across his shoulder when it fell to the ground and fired, shooting his older son in the back, according to the report.
The teenager then called 911 for help, the report states.
The 22-year-old was taken to a hospital for treatment.
