ELIZABETHTOWN — Warrants were issued Friday for a Clarkton man accused of fatally shooting another man Wednesday.

Harold Eugene Swindell, 47, of the 200 block of South Page Road, is wanted on charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The shooting happened shortly after 6 p.m. in a parking lot in the Oakdale Homes housing area, a release said.

Lonnie Level Smith, 38, of the 200 block of Jasmine Lane in Clarkton, was shot after a physical altercation. He was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Bladen County Hospital.

“We have reason to believe Swindell is still in the state and we are asking anyone with any information on his location to please contact us at 910-862-6960,” Sheriff James McVicker said in the release.

Swindell should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached or confronted, McVicker said.
