A concert focusing on legends of North Carolina pirates kicks off the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra's 2017-18 season.

The season will be the first under newly hired music director Stefan Sanders.

The "Cape Fear" concert, scheduled Oct. 14 at Huff Concert Hall on the campus of Methodist University, includes works including Wagner’s "Overture to The Flying Dutchman" and music from the movies "Hook" and "Pirates of the Caribbean."

The rest of the season includes:

• "A Carolina Holiday," Dec. 2, Huff Concert Hall, Methodist University.

• "The French Connection," Jan. 11, St. John's Episcopal Church, 302 Green St.

• "Music of the New World," Jan. 25, St. John's Episcopal Church.

• "1867-2017: A 150-Year Celebration," Feb. 10, Seabrook Auditorium, Fayetteville State University.

• "Americana," March 10, Huff Concert Hall.

• "Appalachian Spring," April 21, Seabrrook Auditorium.

Sanders was hired last month to succeed former music director Fouad Fakhouri.
