The death of a pit bull mix found shot in the head in the Murrill Hill Road area is under investigation.

Onslow County Animal Services is looking for information connected to the death of the dog, which was found with a faded, red rope leash attached by zip ties around its neck, according to a press release from Onslow County. Animal control officers found the black and white dog in the wood line off West Ridge Road dead from what appeared to be a single gunshot. There is a photo of the dog circulated to help potentially identify it and its owner; however, the photo is graphic and may be upsetting. The link is available here.
