It's been 10 years since Kim Black, known to her dance students as "Miss Kim," released a dance DVD.
While visiting some workshops last year, Black realized it was time to make a few more.
"I was asked, repeatedly, if I had anything — a DVD — that would show my method of teaching," Black said. "I appreciated the fact that people wanted to know more. I told them, 'no, but I'll have one the next time I see you.'"
So during the unexpected snow days in mid-January, Black got to work.
The result is "Dance with Miss Kim," basic ballet movements, and "Move with Miss Kim."
"'Dance with Miss Kim' is basically a dance class with me," she said. "And 'Move with Miss Kim' is a chance to give young children what I like to call a little wiggle time."
A DVD release party will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Children's Museum of Alamance County, 217 S. Main St., Graham.
The DVDs are for little girls, ages 3 to 6. Created by Ken Morrison of MVP Productions, it's been a great opportunity for Black to share her love of dancing and teaching.
"I've been doing what I've been doing for 30 years now," she said. "And I wanted to share it with this community that has supported me."
Black teaches 16 dance classes at the Burlington Dance Center and teaches Healthful Living and creative movement at The Burlington School in Burlington.
"I had wanted to do another DVD for so long," she said. "When these were finished, I felt like I had just won a race."
Admission will be discounted $3 per person; cost for the museum is $5 per person. The DVDs are $10 each. Every child will get a goody bag from Miss Kim. For more details, visit misskimproductions.com.
