Grace Alliance Church will host a movie night July 29.
Fellowship time will begin at 8 p.m. with free hot dogs and drinks. The movie "Courageous" will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
Come to Bible schools in community
Vacation Bible School at Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ is winding down with a Friday hot dog supper beginning at 5:30 p.m. and closing ceremony following at 7 p.m. Everyone is asked to bring at least one can of food for their offering each night to support local food pantries.
Hedrick’s Grove will be home base once again for Tricia’s Ride for Life on July 30. It’s not too late for early registration for $25 through Friday or for $35 later. Registration will start at 7 a.m., and the cyclists will leave out at 8 a.m. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
The Men’s Fellowship and the Cub Scouts are sponsoring an all-church ice cream social from 4 to 6 p.m. July 31.
Men’s softball is under way at Holly Grove Field. Hedrick’s Grove plays at 8:15 p.m. Thursday; 7:15 p.m. Monday; and 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Becks Evangelical Lutheran Church will combine with First Evangelical Lutheran Church for Vacation Bible School. The theme will be “Egypt.” The event will begin with a light supper at 6:30 each evening from July 31 to Aug. 4 at First Lutheran Church. There will be classes for children through sixth grade, as well as a youth/adult class each evening.
East End Baptist Church is hosting a new program that includes singing, potlucks, backyard small groups, etc., on Sundays throughout the summer.
Vacation Bible School will be held at East End from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 27-29 for ages 4-12.
Friend Day will be Aug. 7. Lunch and games will follow the 10:30 a.m. service.

Lions clubs bestows awards
The Lions District 31-I Awards and Installation Banquet was held Saturday at First Reformed United Church of Christ. Past District Gov. Allen Reinhardt presented a plethora of awards and recognized service during the past year. Lion Debbie Williams of the Linwood Lions was named Lion of the Year, and Lion Betty Hayes from the Welcome club received the Secretary of the Year award. From the Davis-Townsend club, Glenda Everhart received the Beacon of Hope, and District Gov. Butch and Elizabeth Conrad were progressed in their William L. Woolard awards to patron and supporter levels, respectively. Past International President Sid L. Scruggs III presented Lion Elizabeth Conrad with the International President’s Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the current international president, Bob Corlew. Lion Jack Frank received his 50-year pin from Scruggs. Lion Bill Curry of the D-T club will also receive the 50-year pin. Lions from the 15 clubs in Davidson County were honored with numerous other awards.
After lunch, Scruggs addressed the group of 97 Lions and guests and installed vice district governors George Culp from Concord and Carolyn Sprinkle of Sparta and region and zone chairs from the 15-county district. At the first cabinet meeting, which followed the installation ceremony, District Gov. Butch Conrad installed district chairs, who then reported on their areas of responsibility.
The Davidson County Lions Council will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Skipper’s Seafood. Come early to order off the menu. This group is not just for your club’s officers — all Lions are welcome to find out what goes in the county. Tickets for the annual raffle in October will be available.
The Captain Peter Hedrick reunion will be Aug. 21 at Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ.
Seniors will meet
The Holly Grove Senior Citizens' next meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at the Mt. Tabor UCC Activity Center.
